What if my child or a member of my family is showing symptoms of the coronavirus?

The most common symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are recent onset of any of the following:

  • a new continuous cough
  • a high temperature
  • a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)

If your child develops coronavirus symptoms, you must not send them to school.  Instead you must call the school to inform the school of this.

If your child becomes seriously ill or their life is at risk then you should call 999 for urgent assistance.

Should my child be tested for COVID-19?

If you are unsure whether your child should be tested for COVID-19, the following website will give you more information about the symptoms of COVID-19 in children:

Protective measures risk assessment

For more detail about the measures that the school is putting into place to provide a safe environment for the children, safe and parents, please see the Protective Measures Risk Assessment below.  This document has been contributed to by staff and governors, and is regularly reviewed. This document is a dynamic risk assessment, and will be updated in line with the changing national and local situation and guidance.  An additional document that has been agreed with the Governing Body of English Martyrs School is our outbreak management plan, which will be drawn upon as required.
