  • English Martyrs on Small Talk!

Fri 27 Sep 2019 Dr. Townsley

This week we were the featured school on Spirit FM's 'Small Talk'.  At the very start of term, Millie came in and filmed the children singing 'The Scoo-be-doo Song' and interviewed some of our children.  Do have a listen on https://www.spiritfm.net/features/small-talk.

  • Day 3 of the Year 5 residential

Fri 27 Sep 2019 Dr. Townsley

After a good night's sleep - and a longer lie in than Day 2 - the children had their breakfast and headed off to Arundel Cathedral.  They are now officially seasoned pro's at the long walks, and did the whole walk cheerfully without any complaints!  After a good look around the Cathedral, they returned to base, had a good tidy up and headed off for the weekend.  Photos to follow.

Well done to Year 5, you have all been such superstars for the way that you have challenged yourselves and been so open and enthusiastic about learning new things.  You deserve a good rest this weekend!

  • Day 2 of the Year 5 Residential

Thu 26 Sep 2019 Dr. Townsley

Day 2 started with a hearty breakfast and a walk to the castle.  We were lucky again with the weather as although we set out in the rain, it dried up quickly and we even got to picnic in the sun during our visit to the castle.  We had a good look around the chapel, the gardens and the keep, with all the children managing the 132 steps to the top.  Then, after lunch in the gardens, we went to the Museum and the children handled real artefacts and learnt about the town at different points in history.  We then returned to the castle to have a last look around and to visit the gift shop - there was no way that the children were going to let us skip that part out!  We had a lovely walk in the sun back to the accommodation, had our tea and ended the evening with a quiz.  The children have had a lot of exercise, so should sleep well tonight ... as should the teachers!

It has been a super day - the children have been great company and I was so proud to be told what a delightful group of children they were at both the castle and the museum.

  • First day of Year 5 residential

Wed 25 Sep 2019 Dr. Townsley

Year 5 have had a great first day of their residential.  They impressed us all with how quickly they managed the first walk of the day, and then had a great time pond dipping, bug hunting and finding out about our local wildlife.  After a rather soggy walk back to base, they demolished their dinner and then headed out for a night walk.  We listened to the sounds of the dusk, saw lots of bats and spotted stars.  And all in the dry too!  Then back to base again for hot chocolate, biscuits and off to bed.  The children have been really well behaved, and are being a credit to the school.  They should sleep well after all that exercise!

We will update you again tomorrow.

  • Year 1 Picnic

Mon 23 Sep 2019 Dr. Townsley
As part of their 'Memory Box' topic, our Year 1 hosted a picnic for their friends and family.  They wrote and posted their own invites, made the sandwiches and were wonderful hosts!  Thank you to all the adults who came to join us, and a special thank you to Miss Swain, Mrs Kirk and Miss Boutwood for all the hard work they put into making this a lovely occasion for all to enjoy.
  • Poppy Art Exhibition

Thu 15 Nov 2018 Dr. Townsley

We really enjoyed our 'Art Exhibition' of all of the children's poppy-themed art and poetry work that they created as part of their learning about Remembrance.  Thank you to Miss Daniels and Mrs Webb who put in a huge amount of work into preparing all the work, and to all the teachers and teaching assistants who helped the children create their masterpieces!  It was great to see so many parents come along to enjoy the art work, and we also invited a reporter from the Worthing Herald to come along, so look out for an article about this soon.

There is a slide show of the children creating their art work in the 'Gallery' section of the website for you to enjoy.

  • Friday Morning Update from Bowles

Fri 02 Nov 2018 Mrs Benham

Another great night's sleep!  A lovely breakfast was enjoyed this morning - cereal, toast, and beans on toast for those who want it!

We are doing our last set of activities this morning - Harrison's Rocks for one group and low ropes for the others.  The children have grown in so many ways and we are so proud of their individual achievements.  They can't wait to tell you all about it and are really looking forward to seeing you this afternoon.

    Quotes from the children today:

    "Amazing!"

    "Orienteering was fun, we won!"

"I liked the campfire because it was warm and fun"

  • Soggy Children at Bowles!

Thu 01 Nov 2018 Mr Cousins
Both groups have had a soggy session this morning climbing up rocks, scrambling over them and going through them!  Fingers crossed that the rain dissipates for the rest of the day, especially for the campfire planned for this afternoon!
  • Thursday Morning's Update for Bowles

Thu 01 Nov 2018 Mrs Benham

Well the staff have been so impressed (amazed!!) at how well the children have slept. Another all-through-the-night sleep for staff and children, only to be awoken by the sound of children playing catch in the corridor at 7 something this morning!

However, the tidy bedroom award is still yet to be decided!! Floordrobes are really popular here!

  • Wednesday's Activities

Wed 31 Oct 2018 Mrs Benham

A lovely sunny day, at least a degree or two warmer than the last few days! (When the sun is out anyway).

More team challenges for one group, followed by kayaking.  The other group had more skiing and tobogganing. Great fun had by all.

Macaroni cheese and rolls for lunch.
