  • Sid the Shark comes to English Martyrs!

Thu 18 Oct 2018 School Office
Today we were visited by Sid the Shark and Carl from Sussex County Cricket club.  Sid and some of our years 6s officially opened the new playground equipment, and children in all year groups enjoyed a cricket coaching session.  Sid was a huge hit with the children ... and the staff!  The Worthing Herald came to be part of this, so look out for a story about our school next week.  Thank you to Mr. Cousins for organising.
  • Year 3 Greek day

Wed 17 Oct 2018 School office
We had a fantastic array of costumes for our Year 3 Greek day, and there were some really wonderful mythical creatures brought in from the home learning task.  Thank you, Year 3 children and parents, for all of your hard work in preparing for the day and to Miss Marlow, Ms. Murrell and Ms Whittle for this lovely learning opportunity.
  • Year 1 historical bikes visit

Fri 12 Oct 2018 School office
A big thank you to Val and Graeme Gill who came in to show the Year 1 children their historical bikes as part of the children's learning about memories.  Val and Graeme even dressed up in Victorian costume for the event!  Seeing a penny farthing and the chance to try out a child's penny farthing was a great experience for the children.
  • Year 2 RNLI visit

Mon 08 Oct 2018 School office
As part of their 'Land Ahoy' topic, the Year 2 children had a visit from a member of the RNLI today.  They learnt about different lifeboats, how to keep safe at the seaside, and different signals. The dressing up opportunity was a definite hit!  Thank you to Miss Daniels for organising this experience for the children.
  • Drumming Workshop

    Mon 08 Oct 2018
Monday started with a bang as the children enjoyed a drumming workshop.  For Key Stage 2 children a leaflet will be coming home with details of a drumming workshop in half term.
  • Grandparents Day

Thu 04 Oct 2018 Dr. Townsley
Thank you to our Grandparents who came into school this afternoon to share their grandchildren's learning.  We loved having you with us!
  • Year 6 World War Two talk

Thu 04 Oct 2018 Dr. Townsley
Following on from their World War Two day, our Year 6 children then had Mr. Townsley come in to give them a World War two talk.  They learnt about what a soldier would carry, tried on some of the uniforms and helmets, and looked at lots of artefacts (all weapons were deactivated or replicas!).  Guessing what the button polishing stick was used for really challenged them, and smelling the carbolic soap got some great reactions!  The children asked some great questions - well done, Year 6.
  • Year 6 World War Two day

Wed 03 Oct 2018 School Office
Our Year 6s really enjoyed their World War 2 day today.  There were some great examples of 1940s fashion, and this afternoon the sounds of  our Premier Sport coach being a Sergeant Major and putting the class through some serious drills echoed around the school!  Thank you all parents who came along to hear the children perform and to share their learning so far this half term.
